Let Down With Madge
 pop culture

I gotta say, I haven’t wanted to admit this… Not even with myself. I love Madonna. I have always loved Madonna. Since day one. Literally. But there are some things lately that totally bug me. It started on the Confessions album a bit.. Now it’s worse.

The first thing that got me was that hook in the lyrics. Tick tock. She’s done it twice now. It’s totally catchy. We love it! But, Madonna ticked and tocked on Hung Up. Now she’s tick tocking on 4 Minutes. Now I don’t know who was actually first ever to use that phrase in a song, but in my recent experience I feel I can more than safely say it was not Madonna. It was Gwen. What You Waiting For in 2004 was the first song I remember tick tocking going on. I could be wrong tho, right? Did Madge “tick tock” somewhere first? Before her 2005 Hung Up? Then there is that stopwatch on the launch site of the latest video?  A bit “Alice in Wonderland” don’t ya think? Where else have we seen that theme lately. Hmmm. Oh wait! Here! Gwen again? Wow… Gwen must be so flattered!

Speaking of the video for 4 Minutes, anyone notice that snazzy dance bit on the grocery store checkout belts? Looked kinda familiar, no? Think for a minute… Not an exact copy like the Tick Tock, but really inspired by Ok Go?

I don’t know. It’s not awful. She’s trend right. I still love all her new stuff. I bought and enjoyed Confessions, and I totally pre-ordered Hard Candy. I just feel let down. I can remember when, for a long time actually, that Madonna was the one to copy. The one others found inspiration in. Maybe she’s come full circle? And since when is a new Madonna single on a shampoo commercial BEFORE the album even comes out? What? Ugh.

But I tell ya, if Madonna has Harajuku girls hanging out with her for her next album I think I will be done.
