So dude. I have had this Christmas tree up for nearly a month. Enough is enough! I announced over the weekend that tomorrow I am hauling it out and packing it away. That was greeted by Richard (my better half?) with a mild protest. He wants it up till after New Years. Ew. I mean, okay, people all have traditions. My mother and I have been known to take it down Christmas Day. Come on, *after presents* of course! We’d even wait till after lunch, then out it went! So for me the thing is well outlived its welcome. So my question is: When is the appropriate time to de-Christmasify your home?

when do you take the tree down?

honestly we used to take down the tree just about after christmas, but before new years. that’s pretty much how it’s been in our house.

In spite of my self-professed atheism, my tree typically comes down on the traditional 12th day of Christmas: the Epiphany, a.k.a. Three Kings Day.

Because our tree doesn’t often go UP until the 20th or so, it makes the most sense to let it stay maybe a week or two after the new year has begun… plus the pre-christmas craziness prevents us from enjoying it until after the 25th anyway.

The traditions about trees in my family has always been, they go up the weekend before Christmas, and hang around until the weekend after New Years (about the time of the epiphany).  Of course that was my childhood, now that I’m an adult, I won’t kill a tree, or up-root shrubbery for any holiday.  Nor will a Hong Kong Pine work for me either.

[Fabulous !]
I like to keep up the tree till after New Year’s. Although I’ve been known to leave it up till February and creep out in the middle of the night to throw it in the dumpster. LMBO!

But that only happens when it’s a fresh tree because it makes the house smell good. *crosses fingers*
