I got the most surprising thing in the mail today. A Christmas card from my father’s sister. It features two little angels drawn in that country folk art kinda way. The girl angel is pulling the boy angel in a sled. For some reason there is a cat and a dog. The card itself has the message “Across the miles… To wish you the most wonderful Christmas Blessings!” The personal note written says “How’s (my company) out there? I’ll bet sunny California is the place to be at Christmas. It’s 5 below zero here today!”
Umm. Okay… This card is so random! I haven’t seen or spoke to these people in more than ten years! What is with the sudden reaching out? Questions leaped into my mind. How did they even get my address? Does my dad’s side of the family even know I’m gay? Why send a card to a stranger?
Could the note be any more generic?
This is weird. I guess it’s a nice, although late thought. I don’t really know any of my extended family. We’ve always lived so far, and I was at that age. I never kept in touch when I should have. My father side of the family didn’t even try. At least I’ve seen my grandmother and aunt on my mother’s side somewhat regularly in life. They’ve even been over to our place (Richard and I) for dinner!
The actual card is kinda creepy, regardless of the intent. Anyone else get the unexpected holiday greeting?

Um, no. In fact, people I know don’t send me cards!
