making a living
As some of you know, I work in retail. At work today some of my associates were venting our “pet peeves” and discussing how to handle the situations better. You know, customers who do not respond when you say hi, or talk on their cellphone while you ring up their purchase, or who make messes and don’t pick it up. For example: a woman yesterday was feeding her baby Cheerios, and the baby was in turn taking them from his mouth and throwing them on the floor. The woman left them there and continued shopping. I got a broom and swept them up in front of her. She then seemed annoyed with me that I was obvious about it!
What really makes me mad though, are the mothers who take their strollers up the escalator. The elevator clearly has directional signs pointing to it, but these lazy women would rather put their child’s safety at risk than walk 30 more feet. We even have the standard signs on the escalator stating PASSENGERS ONLY, NO STROLLERS. It kills me.

Waking up at 6 am in the morning on Saturday because you have to work. Everyone else is sleeping in. Even the cats.

The next promotion for me at my company is now posted on Monster. So, not only do they not see me as qualified, but no one else within the company either. What a shit hole. Who’s training us any way?
Fuckers.

The holidays are such a rough time for me. I’ve been in retail for to long to participate anymore. Sorry.
It starts out easily enough. The great fall clothes start to come in (my favorite season for apparel). I buy a few things. Halloween rushes by…Then we put up the holiday decor! Its always fun to transform the store! We start to see cheerful, early shoppers, sales are up, yay! Then its time for Thanksgiving. I do love Thanksgiving!
The day after however, is somewhat painful. Those folks on Black Friday really tear up the place. It is a fun day though, and fools me into thinking this year will be different. I even put up some decorations at home. It all goes downhill rather fast. The store gets messier. People get crazed. They do not watch their children. They leave trash. They are not polite.
Don’t even ask about Christmas Eve. Those people scare me. They are grabbing anything at this point. Stepping on the clothes that they threw on the floor. At the end of business, I have to almost physically remove them. They want to “get one more thing”, and criticize my “holiday spirit”. Oh, and they swear at me too.
Now its over , and I am mentally exhausted, wondering, “was I there?”

Today sucked! Have you ever been so stresssed about something that you abso-fucking-lutlely forget everything about a topic that you have to KNOW??
So, yeah, I bombed out on a conference call at work today. About freaking PAYROLL. I was so worried that I would be asked something that I wouldn’t know that I was frozen. Very bad. I used to excel at things like that, but I feel so poorly equipped in this job. That I’ve had for 2 years. 2 years that feel wasted.
I blame it on the season. Retail Christmas’ suck.
