Donut Outcast And Blog Tweaks

making a living
Today work was very quiet and peaceful. Nobody bothered me, no one paged me. I was enjoying it actually, until I realized that no one was speaking to me. Bummer. I guess word of the donut incident has spread! Heh. I am the donut outcast! But it was okay, I used my social downtime to get a lot of work done.
Speaking of work, I have been working on this blog since I got home. More tweaking, adjusting, and adding pages to port this design into my whole site. I cannot believe how many pages I have. I cannot believe how many templates I am now using. OMG. Anyhoo, I am nearly satisfied. I shouldn’t bore everyone with the details. Read on if you are interested in my geekiness.

First, I fixed the “CSS” issue on the individual entry page. It wasn’t CSS afterall, but an extra ‘div’ tag. Ooopsie! I am so glad that’s resolved. But now do I go back to inline comments? Keep the pop-up? What?
Now I have a few things on my list. I am thinking of doing a main link list page, since we only show 50 at random in the sidebar. I miss the full list… My new tag cloud page isn’t showing the change of word size per post count like it should. I need to fix that. I also wish the content area was a skosh wider. As it is it doesn’t hold a standard You Tube player. That really bums me out. It would be ideal to have that area resize dynamically as you resize your browser window, but that may be impossible with this design. I was playing with the CSS and can adjust the size of some areas like the entry box, background, and frame (header image) but the source images are a fixed size. I think that even if I totally knew what I was doing, adjusting the CSS won’t do what I want it to. Let me know if you are a CSS guru that thinks differently, cause I’d kill for that extra skosh!

NSFW, And Free!

One has to be careful when looking for free porn, to be sure. The internet is a dangerous place! I stumbled upon this little site recently, and I wasn’t even looking for porn! Because it is completely free, I felt I had to pass it on. A guy loves a bargain yo! There’s even something for the straight folk, totally free!

what's up?
Had to take the ol’ car in today for a very early appointment. It was broken. Well the window was. Someone slammed the passenger door a wee bit to hard and the window was wobble like a loose tooth. Which of course rattled like a mofo when I drove. So off to the shop it went. Needless to say I am more bitter about being up this early than I am about the window. I love to sleep in on the day off.
Anyway, it is a good time to prepare for moving day. That’s right. Soon your very own beloved dp.com will be housed on a new server! I am hoping that this move will eliminate all the site outages we have been experiencing. I am looking for ‘load balanced’ hosting. That’s a fancy term! Load Balanced. What it means is this. I will now have more than one door here at dp.com. No more crowds all cramming in the front door and tearing down the house. We could all enter comfortably through the front, side, or even back door. Ooh er!
Anyways. Busy busy…

Okay. WTF. Today is a piece of crap. First of all, my site was down again. Somewhere, somehow I have traffic spikes that knock me offline. Now I love me some traffic. I am a traffic whore! But seriously. I didn’t think it was that high. So I must still have a robot or bandwidth sucking situation. It’s the only thing I can figure! So I blocked more bots, and put the Google Bot on a really tight leash. No more Image Bot. Speaking of images, I used to only block known ‘hotlink’ places like MySpace and Blogspot. Now I have blocked any and all hotlinking. No more Mister Nice Guy. Hopefully this will work, because waking up to no blog kinda sucks. So does spending your whole morning looking for unwanted traffic reducing solutions and code.
Where was I before I started the tech ramble? Oh, my crappy day so far! Yeah, so I have been for the most part tied to the computer trying to keep my site online. All the while the washing machine has been beeping. It started last night. It just won’t shut off and keeps beeping. I think it is making me slowly insane. I am starting to hear patterns in the beeps. Maybe we are haunted. The weird part is how it’ll stop for a while, then start again. Beep, beep beep, beeep…
In the meantime the sun has come out. Am I out driving in the convertable? No. I am here. But not for long… I am so out the door after a quick shower!
