So we are at the gym today. I was still doing my cardio and Richard had wandered off to the weights. I was bitter because I had no music. My iPod battery was dead. I had managed to get ‘in the zone’ without it and had closed my eyes when I was poked. Startled, I opened my eyes to find Richard there shoving his earbuds at me. I leaned over and heard his Shuffle playing that Anna Nicole song.
“Three days in a row!” He exclaimed.
Clearly Anna Nicole is trying to contact him from beyond…
Macworld starts tomorrow. I am very excited, as I want a new gadget! I just hope there will be something new iPod related because I could totally justify that. My iPod is sooo old, and even Richard agrees that we will be needing a new one. Those little buggers are useful!
Anyhoo, all this got me started on thinking aboot what to do with the old mac. We just recently upgraded to the latest Intel iMac number (she’s so sassy!) and have yet to figure out what to do with the old iMac. It was one of the original flat panel models with the silver twisty arm and round base. It was a dream come true getting that! I saved up for months!! I think I have an emotional attachment. Is that weird? So what to do with it. It cannot burn or mount ant disks, so upgrading it is out. For that matter so are games and new programs unless they come from the internet. It’s not worth having the drive repaired/replaced because.. hello? New computer. Can I even wipe the hard drive without mounting a CD? I don’t know. I can’t contemplate getting rid of it with out doing that! I used that computer for all my financial type stuff!
I blogged my innermost personal thoughts from there. I started my blog from there. Should I just pack it up an leave it in the garage? Decisions, decisions.
Richard and I will be keeping with tradition this New Years. That tradition is staying in and eating take out Chinese food. Maybe we’ll watch a movie. Maybe just bad New Years TV. We’ll see.
In other news, guess what I almost did today? Bought myself a new iPod. I was so close! But then Richard talked me out of it because Macworld is in a week, and there might be something new that I would want. But I really wanted a new iPod today! He’s right though. Good that he talked me down. I had a bit to much caffeine in me. Heh.
Is it just me, or does certain music cause you to actually re-live moments in your life?
Seriously. I have had my iPod in shuffle mode for like an hour and have visited some very vivid, emotional, and even some fun memories. Sigh. I may just be up to late. But for me Berlin, Duran Duran, and even George Michael and The Lords Of Acid all take me back… No wonder I never listen to my music on shuffle happily. I am always forwarding songs to avoid emotions.
What about you? Does certain music take you back, a bit too vividly?
Well, don’t I just feel like a heel. Do you want to know what I’ve been up to? Do you? Well, it all started with the computer. Everything was too easy. I figured it would be a good time to get all my music from the iPod back onto the computer. You see, I used to delete music off of the hard drive back when space was a bit more limited.
Anyway, so this is not something you can just do. The powers that be have purposely set things up so that you cannot go from iPod to computer. Something about the potential of piracy… So, I had to get on the VersionTracker and find a handy application to do this. Which was easy, but non-intuitive. Needless to say without going into a lot of detail I ended up with duplicates of over 2000 song files. When I tried to fix that with yet another handy and non-intuitive application I erased more than half of the files. So, re-transfered from the ‘pod, got my back up off of the external hard drive, and spent well over 6 hours manually cleaning up the file/duplicate/path problems of the 2675 songs.
When it was all said and done, my quest for the 150 or so missing songs set me back about 250. I now have less than I started with. Lesson learned.
I did get to Macworld though. Big geeky fun! Yay! I was good this year. I only bought one game. Last year was another story. Oh, this is pure genius! And, I have to say, I do think the iPod mini is a tad pricey. You can spend just fifty more and get a better iPod. Anyway, back to my game.
