A New Day
money spentpop culture

image

Today was the day that I started anew. Today was the day of enlightenment.

Today I got an iPhone.

I know that it seems like I am being dramatic, I mean I have a brand new iPod, but OMFG there are no words. You have to own an iPhone to know, I think. Today my life improved. I used to struggle with my online and physical life. I mean, I can only take my desktop so far.. but with an iPhone I am always connected. It is just… easy. All my email accounts are there. All my photos are there. My top rated songs are there. My blog, my Twitter… My stats even! Everything! And it just feels right to hold it. It is actually sexy. I know that sounds weird for a gadget, but it is.

I am soooo happy. This device has… in one day, changed my life.

We Have This Rule…
aw, love

Those of you that have been with me a while know that Richard and I have this rule. No gifts. Not on Christmas, birthdays, or any other gift giving holiday. It has worked for us. Instead of sweaters and cologne and junk throughout the year, we do meaningful purchases. Like our bedroom set this year. That was Christmas, and then some. Over the years we have been able to get things we may not have otherwise. So it’s good. ‘No gifts’ works. Oddly though, the rule has exceptions. I guess most rules do. Heh. So Valentine’s has been one constant exception. No matter how much we discuss the ‘no gift’ rule, no matter how often he refuses any exceptions I want to make, Richard has always sent me flowers on Valentine’s. Well, until last year. That was when he hid an iPod Shuffle in the mail box. That was classic! Naughty, but classic. I think he subconsciously is compelled on VD. Scott said it well with his Valentine post:

If you are hooked-up, partnered, or married, the situation isn’t much better.  Ads on television and the radio remind your special someone that if you don’t buy them at least the Hope Diamond for VD, then you must despise them and you are little more than cow manure in human form.  Don’t think that you can get away with just one VD gift or card either.  According to a recent television ad I saw from a card company, you must find a humorous card that smartly sums up your love for this person in a funny way, a “I can’t bear to be without you” card that you slip into the person’s briefcase or tote bag, and then finally the “You are so completely perfect in every way that I need you more than oxygen itself” card.

LOL. I hope that isn’t why he does it. I am delighted every year to be surprised. This year was a total surprise! He has been so against my getting an iPhone that it has been a bit scary. We have even argued about it (I was going to get it last week as I had saved enough actual cash while still taking care of my bills). So imagine my surprise when I opened the card he had stashed in my lunch I took to work yesterday and found an enormous Apple gift card! Not an iPhone, but a nice chunk to put towards an iPhone! I am sooo excited! An still a bit shocked. I am so spoiled by that man! I love him! Heh.

I just wish I knew ahead of time so I could know how much we were spending. I figured from recent happenings (car accident) that this was to be a no gift year for reals. Now I feel cheap. I am going to take him to dinner this weekend, or lunch. He loves a good lunch out. In the meantime, I do think I did well with the card I selected for him wink

Thanksgiving; A Podcast.
it's a podcast!

I recorded this thing sooo many times this week. I think my first Thanksgiving effort was an hour long. From there it shrunk each time I re-did it. The iPod recording device totally sucks ass. Sorry. In other news, I get to talk about my meal, my day, and what I’m thankful for. I say ‘blessed’ a lot too. Odd, cause I am not a religious man, but I do feel blessed. Heh. Whatever. It’s a short one. I need to get my groove back after shooting so many blanks…

Nothing Went Well…
anger management

Today has been a pisser. First, I woke up too early. I didn’t wake up naturally. I had set my alarm wrong because I didn’t know when I had to go to work. Talk about starting the day on the wrong foot! I went back to bed, but it wasn’t the same. work was not bad, but my generally shitty mood effected my whole day. I came home to cat barf on the rug again and had a fit about it. The cats chew on my artificial centerpiece till they eat plastic and vomit. I find vomit too often. The centerpiece looks like hell now. I tossed the thing out finally. I actually had a complete fit about it. Coming home to a house that smelled like cat shit and stepping in barf and finding something destroyed made me snap inside. I missed the interview call, or she didn’t call. I am not sure, but there was no message on the machine and the phone didn’t ring. To top it off my new mic for the iPod recording doesn’t make a bit of difference in the car, even though I tested it yesterday in the car with the radio on. I have no idea why it won’t work, but it’s not the speakers. Must be the noise, but how the hell do other people record in a car?? That totally pisses me off.

I am going to go watch TV.

She’s Got Mad Skillz Yo…
what's up?

So tonight I met the famous internet sensation Joelle of Tenth Muse and Moxie Design Studios. Can I just tell you how awesome she is? Like, when you read the blog and think “oh, she seems really cool” like you need to multiply that by at least ten to get the accurate cool ratio going on. Srsly. We gabbed a lot about our mutual love, the internets. We drank fancy beverages like wine, or a mandarin squish. She sang. (We were at karaoke at The Lamplighter, so that was like normal..) Anyhoo, long story, lots happened. Creepy Turkish Stalker Guy, etc. Details to follow, I am sure. I just wanted to get the recording online. Yes, I recorded.

Here’s the thing about that… Listeners to the dp.com podcast thing know that I cannot use the new iPod to record in the car. Weird. I also cannot use it to record in the chair in the bedroom. Tonight I found that I really cannot record inside of The Lamplighter either. What do all of these areas have in common? Speakers. So I have a recording of Joelle singing an amazing song, sounding perfect. The recording however, sucks. I have decided that speakers are bad with my recoding set up. Duh, right? But if you can get past the noise of it you can hear Joelle pretty well… The crowd really did go wild!

There were other great singers there too, including our own Amy. Then there were the ones with a lot of ‘personality’ and ‘presentation’ like the guy with the feather boa. I think I might become a karaoke groupie! wink

I Want It Like THAT.
hotnesspop culture

imageTimes sure have changed.

You all know I am a Madonna queen. I go waaay back. Further than I care to admit. I remember staying up late, after bedtime, with my clock radio pressed against my ear to hear her latest song premier on radio. RADIO. I think it was Material Girl then. She had not only video premiers, but RADIO premiers. So fucking fabulous. I knew that she was fabulous back when I was like 12.

Anyhoo. So, yeah. I was talking about today. I now have Justify My Love, THE VIDEO, in my iPod. I dunno if you remember or not. Justify My Love was a ‘go to the store and buy the video on VHS only’ due to ‘adult content’. I did go and buy it. I still have that tape, and one last machine that can play it. But now thanks to YouTube (and some other tech secrets) I now have that naughty video in my iPod Classic.

I love that.

“Wanting, needing, waiting....” Heh. “You put this in me...”

Crappy Sound, Crappy Neighbors; Podcast # 41
it's a podcast!

OMG. I am sooo disapointed about my iPod recording. I was in the car, and I totally thought I was good to go. My new ‘pod. My new mic. I was excited.

It is the worst sound quality yet on dp.com. But I am a trooper. I tested it again. It *can* work great. Just not this time… What? You thought I’d re-record? Have you ever tried to have a conversation with no one and then tried to repeat it..? Exactly? It sucks yo.

Anyhoo, it’s a recap on the neighborhood drama last night. Ugh. The drama. Since when do I live in the hood? Sorry again about the noise…

Spoiled Bitch!
what's up?

I am still in shock.

So yesterday I was all busy getting my sleep on. I was rudely awakened by the doorbell. Oh no. It was like 8:45 in the morning. I was not getting up. Who could it possibly be anyway… No one important calls on me at that hour. I was not expecting anything. I hadn’t ordered anything. I am on a budget right now! So I went back to sleep, leaving the door unanswered. Later as I was leaving for work I saw the FedEx message on the door. FedEx? Had Richard ordered something? I put the tag upstairs and took off. I called Richard from the car but he was clueless as to why FedEx would be delivering, but he was unsure. So I was like whatever.. The next day (today) I was busy sleeping in, but Richard was home. Apparently FedEx came again. When I woke up Richard told me that I had a package. Bleary eyed and confused, I went downstairs to investigate. Sure enough, it was a small box addressed to me.

I was hesitant as I opened it. I mean, come on. I had no idea where it was from. There was no return address, no sender name. What ever it was, it was wrapped in white once I got thru the cardboard. There was a small envelope. I cracked that open first. It was a small white card, about the size of a business card. It had one question printed on it, “Who loves ya baby”. Richard! What had he done??

I took off the white wrapping. It was an iPod Classic. OMFG. I ran upstairs to Richard. As I was speaking, excitedly announcing the iPod to Richard, he looked more and more confused, insisting he knew nothing about it. Weird. I went back down to admire my new toy. I removed the packaging slowly. Any Apple aficionado can tell you that the packaging is part of the experience… I savored it. As I held the amazing little machine in my hands I noticed that it was engraved.

It was from my father. “Who loves ya baby” on the card. Of course. My parents! In my mind the value of the thing just quadrupled. The thought alone that in this nothing month, far from holidays and birthdays, they thought of me. And out of all the Apple products I am currently lusting after, this is the one that fills the most needs/wants in one item. I am amazed.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Geekily Green!
guest postage

Hullo. It’s Shel from orangelounge.ca again! I’ve been doing some research on appropriate blog topics for dp.com. As much as this whole Paris hubaballoo is on the nation’s psyche at the moment, I’m not an expert and I afear that Daniel will whoop my ass if I get fully vocal on this topic. Anyhoo…

Green shopping bags have been all the rage lately on dp.com, and I managed to find a great deal of geekery goodness to encourage everyone to be more green!

For example, take this lovely pen holder constructed out of 3.5” floppy discs. You can also use those unwanted discs for making a hawt messenger bag (a project I want to take on myself...).

For the iPod crowd, you can also build yourself a reusable/rechargable USB charger to boost up your iPod on the go! And speaking of all things Apple, and the pentultimate of geekery… I present to you the MacPack!

Haunted Shuffle
aw, loveget in shape!whaat!

So we are at the gym today. I was still doing my cardio and Richard had wandered off to the weights. I was bitter because I had no music. My iPod battery was dead. I had managed to get ‘in the zone’ without it and had closed my eyes when I was poked. Startled, I opened my eyes to find Richard there shoving his earbuds at me. I leaned over and heard his Shuffle playing that Anna Nicole song.

“Three days in a row!” He exclaimed.

Clearly Anna Nicole is trying to contact him from beyond…
