We Have This Rule…
aw, love

Those of you that have been with me a while know that Richard and I have this rule. No gifts. Not on Christmas, birthdays, or any other gift giving holiday. It has worked for us. Instead of sweaters and cologne and junk throughout the year, we do meaningful purchases. Like our bedroom set this year. That was Christmas, and then some. Over the years we have been able to get things we may not have otherwise. So it’s good. ‘No gifts’ works. Oddly though, the rule has exceptions. I guess most rules do. Heh. So Valentine’s has been one constant exception. No matter how much we discuss the ‘no gift’ rule, no matter how often he refuses any exceptions I want to make, Richard has always sent me flowers on Valentine’s. Well, until last year. That was when he hid an iPod Shuffle in the mail box. That was classic! Naughty, but classic. I think he subconsciously is compelled on VD. Scott said it well with his Valentine post:

If you are hooked-up, partnered, or married, the situation isn’t much better.  Ads on television and the radio remind your special someone that if you don’t buy them at least the Hope Diamond for VD, then you must despise them and you are little more than cow manure in human form.  Don’t think that you can get away with just one VD gift or card either.  According to a recent television ad I saw from a card company, you must find a humorous card that smartly sums up your love for this person in a funny way, a “I can’t bear to be without you” card that you slip into the person’s briefcase or tote bag, and then finally the “You are so completely perfect in every way that I need you more than oxygen itself” card.

LOL. I hope that isn’t why he does it. I am delighted every year to be surprised. This year was a total surprise! He has been so against my getting an iPhone that it has been a bit scary. We have even argued about it (I was going to get it last week as I had saved enough actual cash while still taking care of my bills). So imagine my surprise when I opened the card he had stashed in my lunch I took to work yesterday and found an enormous Apple gift card! Not an iPhone, but a nice chunk to put towards an iPhone! I am sooo excited! An still a bit shocked. I am so spoiled by that man! I love him! Heh.

I just wish I knew ahead of time so I could know how much we were spending. I figured from recent happenings (car accident) that this was to be a no gift year for reals. Now I feel cheap. I am going to take him to dinner this weekend, or lunch. He loves a good lunch out. In the meantime, I do think I did well with the card I selected for him wink

Exhausted, Happy
what's up?

Well, I have to say. I think the post-holiday Holiday Party was a success. At one point we had 14 people. Fourteen. In my house. I have never had that many people over in all my life. But what a way to close out the season and ring in the New Year! All of our new friends, some we’ve had for a while, and some that have become like family gathered together like that. It was a blast. Thank you to all that attended. It meant a lot to us. And I love that I can say that there were guys making out on the stairs at my party! Makes it sound really wild, eh? Heh, it just sounds that way. It was a very classy event! I just wish I had taken pictures. There are tons that our friend Sheila took. As soon as I get copies I’ll put them on the Flickr.

Today we have been removing the holiday trim and tree. That is a big ass job! There were a lot of balls on that thing, let me tell you! Of course there is glitter everywhere. I have swept, washed, vacuumed, and wiped. I can still see red sparkles out of the corner of my eye… But the war on glitter will have to wait. My body has finally given in to this cold. I thought I was coming out of it, but today is another story. I am so glad I didn’t get drunk last night or I swear I’d be dead right now. A hang over with this sinus mess? No thanks…

Okay, time to curl up with some tea and a movie.

Party Prep
what's up?

OMG. Where have I been? Where have YOU been? I swear, this poor blog is NE. Glec. Ted. I don’t even know what that means. Srsly, tho. I wanted to check in. Our big post-holiday Holiday Party is tomorrow. I am kinda excited, but more stressed. Also, I am totally sick. I hope it’s a cold and/or flu. So far that’s what it looks like, but I am prone to the Bronchitis. I swear I catch it if it is mentioned around me! But I am not trying to jinx anything. I have what I have. *cough*

I do hope I am not gonna still be sick for the party tho. We have some amazing people on the guest list. It would suck to be off at a friends house on the sick couch, missing the whole event. Most of the heavy work preparing was today. Tomorrow all I have to do is rest. I intend to rest. A book, a movie, whatever. You won’t pry me from the couch till it’s time to put on my face. Heh. And possibly an attitude. In fact my whole persona might just likely be totally fake. But I’ll look good. And I will be on cold meds. But I will be there. At my party. Propped up in a corner. Oblivious.

Or at my friend’s house, the one I cannot name. Propped up on his couch. With his dog. Trying to get well, but knowing it is best my germs stay with me… While everyone is at my house partying. Sad.

We Are Hot!
pop culturewhat's up?

Hot for words, that is! I swear, Marina is the best thing since Webster. Since high school, even! Seriously. If you aren’t watching her, you need to. Get it going sister! You could will learn something! Plus even the gay folk like myself find her hawt. Sizzling hot.

But really, I had mentioned to my semi-local web guru that I needed a Marina button a few times, and I think Santa was the one that finally tied him down and forced his creative juices to flow. Wait. That wording sounds dirty. Reminds me of a naughty bit of holiday on the web I saw somewhere (don’t look, really. you’ll hate me.) ... Ew. Anywho. The brilliant Brian hooked us up with the one and only original Hot For Hot For Words button. It is not yet officially endorsed, but I am sure my Marina will love it.

image

I so want to take her shopping and carry everything she buys. Is that weird?

So, yeah. If you want a Hot For Words Button, swipe it and upload it yo. Give her the link love. Just don’t hot link. Cause dp.com frowns on that. And you will be cursed with like 18 years of bad juju. So there. Merry merry!

Holiday 2007, Recapped
what's up?

Christmas time is almost done. I am soooo excited. Do I even have to tell you? Heh. So excited.

I actually had a nice holiday. Christmas eve we had nibbley things and hung out at the house. We toasted the end of the holiday shopping season with champagne! We watched A Christmas Story. I love that stupid movie! Then the next day we slept in, as I mentioned. I baked up some naughty treats for breakfast. Did a few chores. Oh, come on! I know chores on Christmas kinda sucks… But we had been working the past 7 days!! So anyhoo, after that business was done we got all pretty to meet the girls for Christmas Lunch. (It’s not just lunch that day, it’s got to be Christmas Lunch.) Good thing we dressed up too. You should see how gorgeous the gals looked… In fact you can, on my Flickr! So it was me and my Richard, Sheila, and her two lovely daughters having a holiday meal outside at the waterfront Marriott on Coronado Island. On Christmas. With a view of downtown. Can you even? I love living in San Diego.

Today was a harsh shove back into reality as I once again returned to work. But really it was fine. Still, I cannot wait till my long weekend.

Oh, Hai! (I Hate December)
anger managementmaking a livingwhat's up?

Did you see that? Did a tumbleweed just blow through? Can’t be. It’s winter! Even here in San Diego! But I do have to admit, it has been quiet in this place. I swear, every time I sit down to chat with you all, or type something interesting I just find that I am too tired. Tired and burnt out. To tell you the truth, no matter how ‘easy’ I claim my December to be, it is always the same as far as mental burnout. Something about the holidays, or winter, or my birthday. Something about the whole thing just makes me tired. Plus I hate this month.

Anyhoo. So yeah. Hi! I missed you all. I am sorry for all the link-tastic content. And the You Tubes. How has your December been? Really, I want to know. Does it kinda suck for the non-retail folk too? It has to. I mean unless you are independently wealthy with a staff of your own, I cannot imagine December to be one of the ‘fun’ months. Like July. I love July! It has to be my favorite! And I don’t even like the heat so much! Well, I like it better than I did. Something about a convertible in San Diego made me see the light on that one. So what else? Why was I here up in your face for today? *thinks* .. Hrm. I dunno. I really don’t have a lot to talk about since I am like 90 percent at work lately. I could tell you stories about that but I think we all know the gist of what goes on… selfish, self-important, slobbish, rude, messy.. you know. You see it when you shop!

So, did you know it’s my birthday tomorrow? Srsly. In like 15 minutes I will have aged one more year, officially. I hate that shit. Oddly enough, this year I had to go in to the DMV for the license renewal bit. New picture and prints, right? Well I went thru the whole procedure. I followed all the steps correctly. What did I get in the mail today? My new Driver License. I look like a bloated lesbian. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. But still. Talk aboot fugly. I am contemplating pretending I never got it for a re-take photo. I am quite sure I do not look like that. And I think the photo is too cropped. You cannot even see my hawt new Levi’s. I look good in those!

But enough about that. I was talking about my birthday. It’s tomorrow. But at work they got it into their head to do a singing thing today. Why? I do not know. It was clearly last minute. I don’t eat cake. They got nachos. Would have been fine, but they got beef on them. I don’t eat beef. Ever. Then it turned out to not be beef nachos but carne asada fries. Basically like a nacho but with fries instead of chips. Ew. Kinda gross. But they sang. I served them the fries I wouldn’t eat. Weird. It was all kinda uncomfortable. I do appreciate the gesture tho. I hate having a December birthday. It sucks more than one would think. Every year. Even my parents couldn’t even get a good birthday gig for me that time of year. And, any gift had holiday wrap. Or comics. What the hell with the comic pages? Cheap much? I’d have rather had holiday wrap. Even as a child.

Turns out there is no plan for tomorrow either. I was originally working all day, 12-9… I told Richard I was moving my shift, but he forgot and assumed I’d just be at work. So he asked me what the plan was!? I think he’s taking me to our usual little Mexican place for dinner, since that is what I told him I expected. At least, anyway. No plan for my birthday! Not even a stand-by! Has this happened to you? So now I am having to wake up for an ugly 7 AM start time, with no reason. No dinner plan. Nada. I wish I had kept my 12-9. At least I could’ve slept in.

I fucking hate December. [/self centerd bitch-fest]
