Slutbucks
news

Apparently a local religious group is up in arms over the new (old) Startbucks logo. Sheesh.

(San Diego, CA) Starbucks has recently introduced a new version of their logo which features a topless mermaid with her legs spread, which has caused outrage from a nation wide Christian media watchdog organization. The Resistance, with has over 3000 members nationwide, is boycotting Starbucks across the country saying their new logo is inappropriate.

“The Starbucks logo has a naked woman on it with her legs spread like a prostitute,” explains Mark Dice, founder of the group. “Need I say more? It’s extremely poor taste, and the company might as well call themselves, Slutbucks.”

via Richard (he didn’t list a source for the story)

Okay. Really. It’s a FISH WOMAN and those are not legs.. They’ve used the “Siren” logo before… But aside from that, come on! (The new cup below the jump, in case you’ve missed it.)

But I agree with Richard, I kinda like Slutbucks… “I am a bit of a coffee whore.”

Morning From Hell (Beep)
anger management

I woke up with one chore to do today. Clean the fish tank filter. I was up nice and early. As I was checking my email and sipping a nice cup of coffee I heard it.

Beep. Beep. Beep beep!

It was that damn washer again. It does this every now and again. I don’t know why. It was brilliantly designed by those Kenmore folk with no display. Anyway, the last time it did this beeping non-stop (usually it stops on it’s own) I had found a magical button combo to reset it. Did I write it down? Erm.. No. Of course not. So I lost like 30 minutes looking for it on the Google. Then I went down to try and ‘figure it out’. No luck. It was getting late so I went to my chore of the filter.

Beep. Beep. Beep beepbeep.

The filter thing went fast, although with all the beeping I was a bit annoyed. I put it back together and went to re-attach it to the tank. It filled with water, but wouldn’t prime and start. I pumped the little starter to get suction. Nothing. I pumped more.

Beep. Beep. Beeeeep.

After some time I gave up and tried to detach a hose to use my mouth to start it. The hose apparently had filled with water even though it wouldn’t prime. This water sprayed everywhere, drenching me and the immediate area of floor and inside the cabinet that houses the filter.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

So I unplug it altogether and take it back to the sink to drain it and try to start the process all over. Water of course drips along the way. I head bak to the tank, re-attach and try again. I pump the thing. Water leaks out from somewhere. The washer beeps. Finally it starts.

Beeeeep.

So I have cleaned up. I am running totally late (even later after blogging it). The washer is still beeping.

Quick Fish Update
what's up?

imageCelebrate! There were no further casualties. A miracle I tell you! But I still went to the pet store and stocked up on the chemicals. And to be safe poured a half a bottle in the tank. Just in case my bacteria levels were still off. I’d like everyone living in there to stay alive thanks.

We Are Up Too Late
pretty pets

Big drama here kids. Drama with the fish tank. None of it is anyone’s fault.

Richard decided to do a big water change. Great! Except that he also decided that the filter had to be done immediately as well. Now normally we space those two chores out. Not because they both suck, which they do. We space then out for the safety of the fish. A big water change can stir up a lot of dormant pollutants. The filter has bacteria in it to deal with said pollutants. If you clean the filter you weaken the bacteria inside, so doing both on the same day can potentially harm your fish if the tank is dirty. Ours apparently was, and worse than we thought. We are on schedule with the chores, as both get done once per month. However, a fair amount of plants died while we were on vacation. Since we weren’t home picking out the leaves and such the filter was filthy and a bit clogged. This made the tank extra filthy. We hadn’t noticed. You see, the water chemistry had balanced out to the dirty conditions, and sustained life (although we have lost two fish since we’ve been back). We just destroyed that balance and now the water chemistry is out of control. Sort of like a brand new tank that you aren’t supposed to put live fish in. Richard has now done two consecutive 25% water changes. That amounts to roughly 50 gallons emptied and then replaced 5 gallons at a time. Yikes! That’s a workout! But the hope is to dilute the bad bacteria while the good bacteria re-establishes itself.

To make it all worse, there are two chemical products on the market to save you in just such an emergency that will rapidly eliminate the bad stuff in your water. We always have these on hand. Always. Except for right now. We have neither. I really wish we hadn’t put off that trip to the pet store. There really should be a 24 hour pet supply. I am surprised that there isn’t actually.

Anyway, even if this all makes no sense to you, please cross your fingers that the fish are alive when we wake up in the morning

Day Off Recap
what's up?

Well, I woke up. So that was good. It was about ten thirty. That’s mu usual time when I don’t have to be up early for work. I hate to sleep in later that that, but I rarely will get out of bed on my own before that. It was a normal day. Water, OJ with that Emergen-C stuff, coffee, and some cereal. I skipped the gym today. Actually we skipped the gym, so there was no one to make me feel all guilty. After getting showered and dressed we had a ton of stuff to do. Target, dry cleaners, Starbucks (well, as a side trip), and the aquarium/fish store. Of course there had to be a stop for lunch, so between the Target and the aquarium store we stopped at a taco stand. It was sadly right off the high school and was flooded with emo kids and skaters and stoners. I didn’t know that stoners were still a thing. Huh. So anyway, aside from the hoodlums and the random whaling this one kid in the parking lot received it was a pretty good place. Food-wise anyway.

At the aquarium place I think the fish guy, who was sorta scruffy and wore a belt with his cargo shorts to the side was kinda into my man. It was funny in that not funny way.

It Seems Like A Lot.
get in shape!mmm, food...

This is a bowl of tuna salad. For those who have been over to dinner you may know that this bowl is quite large. It has approximately 36 ounces of fish, low fat mayo, fat free ranch, mustard, and a variety of tasty seasonings in it. But not salt. Tuna is salty enough on it’s own yo. Did I mention the ½ onion and 3 chopped zesty pickles? We make yummy tuna salad. It will be in our sandwiches that we bring as lunches for about a week, give or take. Sometimes we use it for dinner. A few spoonfuls on a salad and you are good to go. Is it a Gourmet Wednesday™ dish? No. But it’s what we do when we eat healthy. Lots of protein for boys that exercise regularly…

Before we came to San Diego there was always tuna salad in the fridge. Since we got here we did quite a few more freezer snacks, lunches out, as well as the gourmet cooking. Not to mention much less exercise. I think it was a symptom of the mismatched schedules. Since that has been remedied (other than PTO policies) we are back on track.

It seems like a lot of the hawt bloggers and podcasters are on a health kick right now, yeah? Weird.

I think my abs and lats are gonna be sore tomorrow.

I Am Out Of It.
making a livingpretty pets

Today’s my Friday. That is how out of sync with the rest of the world I am this week. I feel a little out of it at this point too!

I woke up this morning to what seemed to be a dead fish. My little betta (That’s not him, just a photo from a fish site. Pretty though!) who I just spent 30 dollars on a new little tank for, was sitting at the bottom, pale, and not moving. Crap! But then after my shower he was swimming around. Whew!

I still think he’s sick.

This morning at work I will be testing the burglar alarms. I always feel like a criminal doing that. It’s fun! I get to go around the store and set them all off. (It really is the little things in life I enjoy, huh?)
