Of Birthdays and Blogging
•
what's up?
So today is my mother’s birthday. Aw. My mom! And I am nowhere near her. I sent her flowers tho. They got there early. I figured since they screwed up the last time so bad (the 1-800-Flowers people, I mean) I sent them over to her 2 days early to account for the delivery suckage. I don’t know how much she liked them. I didn’t hear from her for a full day after I got the delivery confirmation in my email. Weird. And even then her note was about so many other things. I dunno. I hate being so far sometimes. I miss my family. It’s the things like birthdays and Mother’s Day that make me feel it more. Don’t get me started on Christmas…
Anyhoo, tonight is pretty low key. Richard is watching the shows he’s missed somehow even tho I saw them. (Isn’t the DVR technology just grand?) I am up here in the office looking at a lot of blogs but not commenting. I need to comment more, I know. I am just in a weird spot right now. I figure if I can get posting on my own blog 3 times a day again it will be time to go play more social again. You see, I was reading this interesting post over at The Blog Herald. And before you can even say it, yes. Yes I am a blogger that reads about blogs and blogging. I find it balances all of my celebrity gossip consumption.

So yeah, it was a post about what to do if you find you are off your blogging path, so to speak. Whatever, I know what people are thinking. It’s a blog. It’s not a job. No one reads it, it’s not even in the ‘top 25’. Right. I realize not everybody thinks like that. I kid. Kinda. But srsly. There were some valid symptoms and these interesting questions presented:
Why am I blogging?
Who am I blogging for?
What am I blogging for?
What is my blog’s purpose?
What is my blog’s mission?
Where was my blog a year ago?
Where is my blog now?
Where will my blog be next year?
Where will my blog be in two years?
Where do I really want it to be?
Do these answers make me happy right now?
I know at first glance it seems silly to contemplate a blog. I took it seriously because I actually take my blog seriously. No, it’s not a serious blog. But dude, I have like 4 years tied up in here. Good times and bad. Good writing and bad. Mostly bad, but it’s still an exercise. It’s a commitment that I have made to myself and for the most part stuck too. I think in the course of this blog I have only missed like 5 or 6 days (maybe 10?) of posting. Total. In four years. That’s awesome! I totally feel like I lived up to the commitment I made in the beginning, before the link whoring, before the snazzy designs, before my self proclaimed internet fame. Heh. But I do think of quitting the blog sometimes. Shocking. I don’t really want to tho. I dunno. I think I need to go old school for a while. Less bitching, possibly less Idol, and much less filtering what I want to say. This may include the ‘what I did today’ posts more often, because that’s where it started. That’s where I got my footing in the beginning, and the core of what I avoid here now. Put on the iPod and just type my life. That’s what I want to get comfy with again before I go on to the next thing. Whatever that might be....

get in shape!
The only downside to working out at a gym is the other people there. Sure many times this is also the major bonus (heeelllooo hawt!), but not today. The first attack on my delicate nose came when I was innocently doing some pull-downs. There is a sit-up machine right behind the back area. The kind of sit-up machine that you add weight to. Anyhoo, the gal using it had garlic for dinner. The action of squeezing her abs squeezed out the evidence of that. P.U. So I decided to finish back and move on.
Later on while doing my cardio, another gal got on the machine next to me. It took about two minutes before I noticed her issue. She was drenched in perfume. Drenched. It burned my nose. It filled the room. People looked at her… But I had to finish my cardio. I was trapped. Now I have a headache. Ew.

Gross Moment At The Gym #867

get in shape!
So I went to the regular gym today instead of the clubhouse up the hill. It gets crowded up there on the weekend, with everyone workin’ on their fitness right? Over at 24 Hour though it was nice and quiet. I was about ten minutes away from finishing up my cardio. I usually go over to the ab machine next. There are only 2 of the one I like to use so I tend to start scoping them out early. I hate to have to wait, yanno? So this Dilbert looking fellow gets on and does some sit-ups. In my mind I start my usual chant ‘hurryuphurryuphurryup’ cause like, I am almost ready to move over there. In the meantime the gal who was on the other machine had left and a new gal got on. She did like 3 crunches, scrunched her face, sat up, and began sniffing the machine. Like the handles and headrest. She looked disgusted. Over at Dilbert’s side, well he was gazing over the cardio room and picking something on his neck. As I was looking he got it loose, whatever it was, and ate it! ATE IT!! I think I said ‘ew’ out loud, but I am not sure. My music was cranked up.
So now I was debating which of the 2 machines were less violated. There was the one that clearly stunk, or the one with Dilbert’s dirty handles from his face picking (which at this point he was really squeezing and working...)
I went with smelly. It is the gym after all. One expects a certain level of funk. But one shouldn’t be confronted with these kinds of choices so early in the morning.

mmm, food...
This is a bowl of tuna salad. For those who have been over to dinner you may know that this bowl is quite large. It has approximately 36 ounces of fish, low fat mayo, fat free ranch, mustard, and a variety of tasty seasonings in it. But not salt. Tuna is salty enough on it’s own yo. Did I mention the ½ onion and 3 chopped zesty pickles? We make yummy tuna salad. It will be in our sandwiches that we bring as lunches for about a week, give or take. Sometimes we use it for dinner. A few spoonfuls on a salad and you are good to go. Is it a Gourmet Wednesday™ dish? No. But it’s what we do when we eat healthy. Lots of protein for boys that exercise regularly…
Before we came to San Diego there was always tuna salad in the fridge. Since we got here we did quite a few more freezer snacks, lunches out, as well as the gourmet cooking. Not to mention much less exercise. I think it was a symptom of the mismatched schedules. Since that has been remedied (other than PTO policies) we are back on track.
It seems like a lot of the hawt bloggers and podcasters are on a health kick right now, yeah? Weird.
I think my abs and lats are gonna be sore tomorrow.

whaat!
She walked up in a cute outfit and perfect hair. She selected her cardio machine. She set her bag down on it and got something out to blot her face. Then she reached in and pulled out a tube of lotion. She applied this to her arms while looking around. Just when I thought she was done she got out another kind. Wow. Lotion-y. So then she puts that away and sets up her CD player, untangles her headphones, gets out a note pad, and finally a workout towel. It was 5 minutes before she actually climbed onto the machine! Then she slowly began to move. Sheesh!
I totally wasn’t stalking but she was right next to me… Anyway, then her friend comes up and she carries on a complete conversation. She wasn’t out of breath. She never missed a beat in the chat, and even hand gestured quite a bit. Weird.
And here I was at the gym to sweat.

I love it when I wake up early enough to get my crap done before work… It makes me feel good. But that could be because I’ve been at the gym lately. Remember those commercials where the guy felt like a tiger inside? That’s me.
