Mmm, Martinis…

what's up?
Tonight I think I discovered my new favorite place. It is called, quite simply, Martinis. I love it there. First off, there is an elevator to get up there. Fabulous, right? Especially on Girls Night (where oddly there is always only one girl, but that kinda makes sense if you know Sheila. She is loved..) so those in heels aren’t climbing stairs… It’s in the gayborhood. The decor is great, and it seems to be a great mixed crowd. The pretty people, the average, and a few of the tragic. Heh. Srsly, there was a group of people playing quarters with their martinis. Not pretty. Oh! I didn’t mention the best part about this place. The martinis! There must have been sixty different kinds.. Kinda overwhelming, but in that good way. Plus, the glasses are really enormous. I have decided I want my birthday in that place. Maybe the next one at least. And just imagine it, with my new diet there can be no cake. So obviously there will be a theme martini! I am sure they could do one that tastes like cake…

The Night Before Easter

what's up?
So yes. I am up late. Again. Kill me, why don’t you? Do you know what I am doing? Making a cake. Why? I don’t know. It’s brunch tomorrow. No one will probably have cake, but yanno what? It’ll be pretty on the counter. Well, I think, anyway. I opted for a bundt cake. It’s so much easier. I just don’t know how it’ll look as a yellow cake. Now I have to do the frosting more like a glaze. *sigh* I think I am crazy.
Also I am enjoying the official drink of the @blueteam. So that’s fun. Plus every now and then I hear from Shel. I miss that crazy kid! It’s weird when you chat like every day for like ever and then go to maybe once a month. It’s like my therapist went part time! Sheesh! And I mean that with love… *blows kisses north*
Okay. I think I need to focus on my glaze now. Shit. How the hell am I doing that? Nuking the frosting I think… Yes. That will work…
Domestic And Low Sugar Or Something..

what's up?
Clearly I am a domestic goddess. Well, god actually. Either way, I have done grocery shopping, I have laundry going, and I just took a cake out of the oven. In just a bit I will be making dinner. I rock! I also called my mom, but she didn’t answer. I am all family-domestic today!
Just so you know, it is a low sugar cake that I am trying out. I have found that the most effective weight loss trick for me was to cut out sugar, so I am looking to find ways to have all the normal things I like in a low sugar form. Sheesh! I sound like I have one hell of a sweet tooth. I don’t actually, but I enjoy baking things and having dessert on occasion. Most of my sugar was in the red wine I love so much… and the types of packaged foods I brought for lunch (you’d think yogurt was harmless...) So anyhoo, whatever it takes. I was up to a 40 inch waist on my pants and now I am almost ready to explore the world of 36. I think I can handle no/low sugar along with my usual low fat.
Okay, I gotta create a meal. Richard isn’t home yet, but I don’t wanna eat too late. Besides, we’ve been arguing all day anyway. I can eat on my own.
So I Was Going To Be All Innovative And Stuff

photo album
I baked a cake today. I was going to do a total blog-u-mentary on it. I had pictures and all that. But it seems so late! Anyhoo, we’ll give it a try. you see, I was at the mall, and all I needed was a few things…
All I was after was some simple towels:
It was here where I went wrong. You see, the Williams Sonoma has is known for it’s temptations. They often have people doing ACTUAL cooking to make you buy things. Today was not as bad as all that, but the Smores stack-out was rather prominent. Just look at the box for cry-eye. I could juste taste the chocolate, graham, marshmallow goodness!
Now I was stuck, I made the purchase. Now it was a quick trip back home (thanks to some
Starbucks...) I put away my other purchases and preheated the oven. 325 degrees.
From there I had to get out all the ingredients..
and as it turned out they where supposed to be at room temperature, so I got bored and brought out some snack chips.

Anyhoo, the chips were yummy… I then got out my bundt pan and mixing bowl!
It was from there that the recipe got tricky… First there was the matter of greasing and flouring. Ugh.
Then I had to mix up the Marshmallow powder. Does That seem right to you??
It was around that time that I felt a drink was in order…
As you can see, my work was cut out for me…
I beat the butter.. (2 sticks, btw..)
Added sugar…
All of which was meant for one of those Kitchen Aide stand mixers, FYI. I was able to get it all smooth though!
It was at this point things got a bit tough. I was supposed to put 1/3 of the mixture into the bundt pan, coat the sides up to at least half way, and add the marshmallow WITHOUT TOUCHING THE SIDES. Erm… Okay. Then I was to spoon the remaining batter over the top. As it turns out the batter is MUCH heavier than the marshmallow crap and it oozed all over the pan. It was not in the center of the batter, and I could not see how any mere mortal could have done any better. I figured ‘what the hell’ and threw it in the oven. What could it hurt right??
After it baked for aboot an hour, success!
It was then that I worked out the presentation....
Time to serve it up!!
The judges (Richard) really enjoyed this cake, however wished it were a bit more ‘moist’. Could have been my bad for not locking in that marshmallow goodness though. All in all a great cake, but be warnedd: If you are buying a boxed cake mix at Williams Sonoma you are on the border of
advanced baking. Be careful out there…
