A New Year
mmm, alchohol...thoughts i hadwhat's up?

New Year’s Eve was pretty low key for us. I was still pretty out of it with this cold/flu thing I got going on, but better. So we planned on the usual festivities. Chinese food and champagne. While Richard was out getting the food (It turned out to be soooo good! China Max!) I called my mom. Somehow it helps to talk to mom if I am not feeling well. I know, I am a baby when I am sick. But I have been housebound for like 3 days with this! Anyhoo, Richard finally got back and I was starving! Finally ready for some solid food! So we pigged out and watched movies. I had rented (do you call it renting when you don’t leave the house?) 1408 and Transformers. I enjoyed both, but I have to admit Transformers was mostly cool for the effects. Then it was time for the Ryan and Dick ball dropping. As soon as 2008 rolled in my bubbly and cold meds combo had put me to bed. Fancy night, eh? But it was cool to wake up to 2 New Years greetings from Canada in my voicemail. I love that my social circle is on an international level. wink

So I really wanted to write one of those deep, joy and pain New Year posts. But I can’t. 2007 has just been pretty solid. I have maintained my relationship with my amazing man. We still live in the same place, that we love. We have the same jobs. We have some terrific friends that have become like family, and gained some new friends along the way. All in all it has been a great year. I head into 2008 feeling very hopeful and happy. Happy New Year, and may 2008 bring you something great!

I Am Victimized!
what's up?whaat!

Holy crap!

imageSo I get home today and notice that there are 3 messages on the answering machine. Three messages on the land line is really not normal. I listen right away… The first message was a junk solicitor. Bah. Delete. The next message made me panic. “This is a message from [Bank Security] for Daniel. It is very important that you call us back regarding unusual activity on your credit card” Meaning my ATM CARD!! the next message was worse, “Early Warning Department for [Credit Card Co.]...”

I was trembling as I dialed the phone. I called the credit card company first, as that is a card I haven’t used in over a year. It has a zero balance. Luckily it still does. Apparently someone tried to use it for a plane ticket. On Air Canada. Weird. They are closing the card and issuing me a new one. I wanted to close it, but he put me on hold. I couldn’t wait and hung up. I had another call to make.

My ATM was used in 3 transactions that weren’t me. All were declined. I don’t know how they figured it out. But luckily they did and the transactions were declined at POS.

I am soooo lucky. This could have been a mess. I cannot figure out how they got my info. My ATM is with me all the time. It had to be a card reader somewhere. The credit card was one that I payed off and shredded a year ago. I have NO idea how someone could come up with that one. Oddly, the card that I use for all my online transactions is so far untouched. I feel really super paranoid tho. I will be watching things more closely now. Interesting that the plane ticket purchase was for Air Canada tho. When I spoke to my mom she mentioned that there has been a rash of Canadian credit fraud out her way in Florida. Coincidence?

Anyhoo. I have no access to my cash so my man is gonna buy me dinner. Later!

bad, bad, bad guest blogger
guest postage

It’s good that Daniel has been keeping you in the loop with his latest vacationary goodness, because ShelShel has been not so good.

I’m a bad guest blogger.

It’s easier to sneak in a post during breaks at the 9-5 Monday thru Friday job, but the weekends, well, they can be a bit of a zoo. Saturdays, I drive and wash cars for a VW dealership. And then there’s obligatory time with the Rikz. And Sunday was rather action-packed - I had a Canada Day Party!!

Yes, July 1st is Canada Day, where Canadians celebrated our 160th anniversary of fighting off the Zombie American Hordes of 1867. It was a glorious battle, when Diefenbaker led the troops to glorious victory, only to die himself when, in the last few moments of the battle, a zombified Sir John A MacDonald pulled Dief out of his artillery tank and ate his brains.

Victory was had, however, when Laura Secord jumped into the fray and pureed them both.

So we celebrated by doing the Canada Day Zombie shuffle. It was lots of fun.

I see Daniel was able to update you on SYTYCD, which I was unable to as he sent it during my busy spree (SO SORRY SO SO SORRY DANIEL), and lessee, Paris hasn’t done anything exciting except go surfing, so I’ll just wrap this post up!

Ta! Happy belated Canada Day!

A world map of social networking applications
guest postage

Here’s a map that shows the dominant social networking application per country.

It’s interesting to note that Canada prefers Facebook, while the US prefers MySpace. Intriguing!

The Not Weekly Show (Early Days) Podcast # 21
it's a podcast!

It’s a holiday Edition! (Listen in for special holiday sounds!) Sheldon and I seem to know each other pretty well and at this point it’s like we just record conversations… Listen in if you like eavesdropping! Heh! We WILL organize soon, promise! Anyway, we talk a lot on this special holiday episode aboot a lot of holiday things… I still sound like I am muted tho. WTH?? Can anyone tell me what my problem is?? We also went way too long. We went beyond the reach of GarageBand with this one. I had to cut stuff out! Anyhoo.

Mentioned on the program: Buckley’s Mixture, Skype Virus, visiting parents, holiday traditions, our holiday wishes, the coat with the orange stripe, Linux, Windows, YouTube, multimedia, dp.com crashes, Modem, Boris, CoCo, Chanel, Betty Nicole, STD’s, and more… we are kinda fabulous. Really.

bloviate \BLOH-vee-ayt\, intransitive verb:
To speak or write at length in a pompous or boastful manner.

Yeah. Longest podcast ever on dp.com. Ever. Heh.

Speaking Of Celebrating…

My good friend Shel">Shel up in Canada is having a birthday today! So I got together with Betty, and she got together with me and we decided to have a party. A comment party! It’s BYOB and clothing optional… So we went thru the guy’s blogroll and commented and emailed all over town! Who knows who might be there! There may be an A-lister or two… So follow me over, and don’t be shy!
