Stylist Tanya gill knows that the digital fashion space is crowded. But the industry’s long-standing accessory – who dressed up Jane fonda and Hilary swank and acted like Twiggycostume designer The next American top model – is ready to join the ranks of the online style anyway. On Tuesday, Gill will officially launch Iconhouse.com, an editorial site featuring interviews, moodboards, product choices and red carpet commentary seen through the lens of one of Hollywood’s busiest stylists, Gill herself.
âI always thought of doing something like this,â says Gill. Pret-a-Reporter. âI have had my Iconhouse business for a long time, and this is the next step. ”
Gill’s site will be strictly inspirational, with no e-commerce to boot, and a focus on powerful personalities that the stylist chooses for herself.
âI want it to be like a museum. Come five minutes a day to look around.
The first “exhibits” appearing in the simple and highly visual layout include a profile on the model of the 60s Penelope tree, a review of Apple advertising and a moodboard filled with everything, Patti smith To Barbra streisand and photos from Paris Fashion Week shows.

âThere are so many amazing fashion icons that inspire a lot in the world of fashion and art. But young people don’t know where they’re coming from, âsays Gill. “I wanted this launch to have a few different icons to show off a range.”
Other features include a music section, where a British stylist colleague Nikki Pennie – who recently turned to a career in music – will host âicon musicâ via Soundcloud playlists every few weeks.
“What would DVF listen to at Studio 54?” What are we listening to in the hotel room getting ready for the Oscars? Gill said of the idea. âFashion music! ”

Although there are currently no plans for direct monetization, Gill is hoping the site will act as an extension of his brand (âbuilding a brand is very important if you have a strong point of viewâ). She hired a New York-based website design and branding company Black & Creative Black as well as a small but powerful handful of contributors – including the former Style.com editor Kristin Tice Studeman. âI want it to be a global platform. As we evolve, I will find writers and bloggers who could contribute.
Perhaps the most notable launch feature is a Gill-pened, first person play on Martin Margiela which tells the story of a chance meeting in a Parisian jazz bar, during which the designer not yet of age – then attending jean paul Gaultier – helped the aspiring costume designer land a job interview with his boss. Gill got the job.
“I want to write about interesting topics that are extremely relevant and not just your same old ‘where can I buy that lipstick? she says, “I want a different point of view.”
