California Lifts The Ban
Gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry in California, the state Supreme Court said today in a historic ruling that could be repudiated by the voters in November.
In a 4-3 decision, the justices said the state’s ban on same-sex marriage violates the “fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship.” The ruling is likely to flood county courthouses with applications from couples newly eligible to marry when the decision takes effect in 30 days.

This is great and all, but I don’t know that I’ll be rushing off to the altar any time soon. I mean, I am all for equality. I think that is a great cause. I also think that anyone in love should get to marry whoever (whomever?) they want. I am one of the gays you read about after all.. This is all good news, though I am sure it is far from over. The crazies are rallying as we blog about it..
But for me, I have been in my relationship for a long time. It seems to work as is, for one thing. Another thing is divorce. Divorce, people. It comes hand in hand with marriage. I have already seen guys joking about all the divorced gays that’ll be on the market in 3 months… Yikes! Seriously though, I was never directly affected by divorce, my parents are still together after 35 or so years, but I have seen enough heartache to want to avoid it. A friend of mine is going through a particularly ugly divorce right now. I feel for her. I am shocked as each week passes what horrible things people will do to make another person miserable or to save themselves money and possessions. It seems a breakup is messy enough without lawyers and judges and all. Bah. I am too tired to reflect on all this intelligently.
What do you think?

At First I Thought I Heard Wrong: Heath Ledger Dead
Now that I am home with my trusty internet, I found out that I HAD heard that radio DJ correctly. Heath Ledger is dead.
NEW YORK (CNN)— Heath Ledger, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his role as a gay cowboy in the 2005 film “Brokeback Mountain,” was found dead today in a Manhattan apartment, New York police told CNN. A possible drug overdose was suspected. Ledger was 28. Ledger was found naked and unresponsive, facedown on the floor at the foot of his bed by a housekeeper trying to wake him for an appointment with a masseuse, said police spokesman Paul Browne. “Pills were found in the vicinity of the bed,” he told CNN. “This is being looked at as a possible overdose, but that is not confirmed yet.”

P.S.A. From Moi
So I got this in my email. Seems like something to pass on. Plus I got nothin’ else today kids. Nada. So, enjoy the following P.S.A. from dp.com…
JURY DUTY SCAM:
This has been verified by the FBI and Snopes (their links are included below).
Please pass this on to everyone in your email address book. It is spreading fast so be prepared should you get this call. Most of us take that summons for jury duty seriously a new and ominous kind of fraud has surfaced.
The caller claims to be a jury coordinator. If you protest that you never received a summons for jury duty, the scammer asks you for your Social Security number and date of birth so he or she can verify the information and cancel the arrest warrant. Give out any of this information and bingo; your identity was just stolen.
The fraud has been reported so far in 11 states, including New York, Oklahoma, Florida, Illinois, Texas and Colorado. This (swindle) is particularly insidious because they use intimidation over the phone to try to bully people into giving information by pretending they are with the court system. The FBI and the Federal Court System have issued nationwide alerts on their web sites, warning consumers about the fraud.
Snopes site: says this is real fraud.

FBI site: warns about the fraud.

Huh. Wonder If I Need This…
In Korea, a Boot Camp Cure for Web Obsession
MOKCHEON, South Korea - The compound - part boot camp, part rehab center - resembles programs around the world for troubled youths. Drill instructors drive young men through military-style obstacle courses, counselors lead group sessions, and there are even therapeutic workshops on pottery and drumming. But these young people are not battling alcohol or drugs. Rather, they have severe cases of what many in this country believe is a new and potentially deadly addiction: cyberspace…. They spend at least two hours a day online, usually playing games or chatting. Of those, up to a quarter million probably show signs of actual addiction, like an inability to stop themselves from using computers, rising levels of tolerance that drive them to seek ever longer sessions online, and withdrawal symptoms like anger and craving when prevented from logging on.

Probably so…

Firestorm 2007 Caused By Gays?
This from an anti-abortion pastor in Milwaukee:
Last week I groaned when I read how Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a bill into law in California which foisted homosexuality upon the children of that state through the state school system. The bill was SB777 and it clearly redefines (perverts) what sexuality is, as well as promotes the legitmacy of homosexuality upon children starting from kindergarten on up. He signed the bill on Saturday, October 13th.
Seven days later on October 20th, wildfires broke out across California in several places.
Ugh. There’s more in the ‘via’ links.

A Distraction.
Dear Local 8,
Thanks for showing some regular programing. Even though I normally watch Fox on Tuesdays, it was a much needed diversion.
Your friend,
Daniel
