Gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to marry in California, the state Supreme Court said today in a historic ruling that could be repudiated by the voters in November.
In a 4-3 decision, the justices said the state’s ban on same-sex marriage violates the “fundamental constitutional right to form a family relationship.” The ruling is likely to flood county courthouses with applications from couples newly eligible to marry when the decision takes effect in 30 days.

This is great and all, but I don’t know that I’ll be rushing off to the altar any time soon. I mean, I am all for equality. I think that is a great cause. I also think that anyone in love should get to marry whoever (whomever?) they want. I am one of the gays you read about after all.. This is all good news, though I am sure it is far from over. The crazies are rallying as we blog about it..
But for me, I have been in my relationship for a long time. It seems to work as is, for one thing. Another thing is divorce. Divorce, people. It comes hand in hand with marriage. I have already seen guys joking about all the divorced gays that’ll be on the market in 3 months… Yikes! Seriously though, I was never directly affected by divorce, my parents are still together after 35 or so years, but I have seen enough heartache to want to avoid it. A friend of mine is going through a particularly ugly divorce right now. I feel for her. I am shocked as each week passes what horrible things people will do to make another person miserable or to save themselves money and possessions. It seems a breakup is messy enough without lawyers and judges and all. Bah. I am too tired to reflect on all this intelligently.

I don’t care about anyone getting married. Banning people from having the ability to marry the person they love is unacceptable. I’m not one of the gays who wants to get married but I like to think that at some point in my life I will be able to have a family. Maybe even a child if I want one then.
I find all the gays rushing to get married just because they can totally braindead. It is different if you’ve been in a relationship for many years (and I mean real years and not gay years).
Gah, I’ve had this discussion so many times, I can’t be bothered to keep typing right now. At least we are allowed to marry in the UK should we ever decide to do it.
